Last year, Entelect launched its first Refer A Developer competition. The campaign was the first public candidate referral campaign run by Entelect and resulted in the hire of a talented young software developer earlier this year.
Although several companies run internal referral campaigns and incentives, Refer A Developer was an initiative designed to reach a much broader audience than previous campaigns. Entelect is the first company in South Africa to open a competition of this nature to the public.
The winner of last years’ competition was Henry Langenhoven, 25, from Centurion. Henry was one of 112 entries who nominated themselves (or another person) to Entelect and one of only 13 people interviewed.
Carmen Williams, Head of Talent Acquisition at Entelect said Henry really stood out from the crowd. “In his interview, Henry demonstrated that he had strong problem solving capabilities and through the discussion demonstrated that he has a high EQ and is very passionate about software development. We knew this was the kind of person who would do well at Entelect.”
The campaign ran across social media platforms as well as on MyBroadband. The objective was for members of the public to refer a talented developer to Entelect. Entelect would then interview the top candidates and offer the best candidate a job with the company. Not to mention the additional prize of a trip for two to Thailand. A secondary social media ‘share’ competition ran in parallel, which was won by Chris Canning, who received a R2,500 Takealot voucher.
The Refer A Developer competition ran from October 2016 to 15 December 2016, and Henry started with Entelect in February 2017.
“Entelect is constantly looking for exceptional Software Developers because the software market is very competitive. So, when we find people like Henry, we move quickly,” says Carmen.
Based on the success of last years’ campaign, Entelect will be launching the next Refer A Developer in June this year.
“The rules remain the same,” explains Williams. “We will be looking for the very best talent in the market and hoping to reward this person with an exciting overseas trip.”
